Description from the listing:
Ravenscleft is a Peabody & Stearns Shingled Cottage built on Cooksey Drive in Seal Harbor in 1901. Ravenscleft is the first house to be built on Cooksey Drive, now home to some of the most illustrious homes in Maine. Sailors named and used Ravenscleft as a landmark knowing that when they came to the cleft in the cliff where there was a raven's nest - they were on track. The home has been completely restored and renovated with a whimsical nod to the original design. The dramatic site is one of the most captivating and desired on Mount Desert Island and the Coast of Maine. Substantial, spectacular estates dot the oceanfront of Cooksey Drive. The well worn pink granite cliffs that the house is perched on command some of the most compelling views of the ocean possible, from working fishermen to competitive and recreational sailors; from Bunker's Ledge markings to navigational markings the vista is ever changing. Sunrise, far off in the distance, sometimes presents cruise ships waiting for pilot assistance to enter Bar Harbor. Ravenscleft presents that rare opportunity to become stewards of a historic home in a spectacular location, it is the only home available for sale with this illustrious address. In addition to the main house there is a charming guest house with one bedroom and a two car garage.

A spectacular setting and a fine Peabody & Stearns house. Impressive that the interiors have been rather expensively designed to look just the right degree of slightly frumpy and organic, as though it just happened that way through the accretions of time (it’s not all quite to my taste, but very well done.)
I wish there were more photos of the interior, including my old complaint: surely there’s a stair or two, and at least one fine one, yet no photo of them.

Apparently the recent owners took great care in restoring the house so that it did look suitably frumpy, but they also seem to have brightened it up a bit, which is probably a good thing. On this page there is some more info about the place from a descendant of the original owner. She makes the original interior sound like a pretty gloomy place.

When I first saw this listing, they were asking ten million, so I suppose the current price is a bargain!

These are great, sharp images…combined, we have a better idea of the views and comforts of this home. Thank you, and Kelly!

Nice, but the area’s kinda gone downhill since Martha moved in. Looks like her decorator was here too.

I was hoping for original wood and lovely antiques. I prefer it that way instead of the blue paint on the woodwork, but others are correct….the decorating was done quite well….just not to my taste. I love the location.

Love the views and I love the walk up to the house. Wow!
I can imagine it’s just amazing to be here when a storm rolls in. :^)
My favorite piece of furniture is the blue tea cart…and I am not so much a fan of blue but it looks very whimsical and charming.
